Things To Do over February Break

Family Activity Ideas throughout Brooklyn and the NYC area during February break.

Lunar New Year Parade in Chinatown: Sunday, February 16th, head to Manhattan for a festival and parade in honor of the Year of the Snake!  Booths will be set up from 11:30 am-3:00 pm, and the parade starts at 1 pm.

Mountain Creek Ski Resort: Mountain Creek is about 90 minutes from Prospect Heights.  The mountain will be busy next week, but it’s very doable to go on a day trip to enjoy the snow with your kids. Pro Tip: If you’re carrying equipment, pay for the premium parking lot (and sign up ahead of time); the walk from the free lot is FAR.

Luna Luna: Experience the immersive art show at the Shed.  Tickets for children are free on President’s Day (2/17).

Intrepid Kid’s Week: I visited the Intrepid during this week last year.  The extra exhibits for Kids Week were a nice balance for the kids who can’t read or appreciate all the history.  It’s a bit windy getting there, so I’d highly recommend taking the bus instead of walking on a cold day.  Once you’re inside, the temperature is comfortable.

MoMA Kids Festival: Special Hours and exhibits at the MoMa for kids of all ages from February 15th-19th.

Mid-Winter Recess at Prospect Park: Enjoy outdoor programming in our backyard in Prospect Park.

Black Future Festival with Brooklyn Children’s Museum: Dedicated exhibits and workshops in honor of Black History Month every day of February break.

Bryant Park Kids Week

New Victory Theater: New Victory Theater is a dedicated kids theater near Times Square.  The shows are an hour long and much more affordable than Broadway (tickets start at $24)!  Nuttin but a  Word is the current performance running all through February break!

American Dream: This will likely be busy, especially on weekends. If you’ve never been, It’s worth the trek! There are so many things to see and do. Pro Tips: I think one activity per trip is enough; if you do more than that, you will all be exhausted from the trek home. Also, the waterpark and theme park have AAA discounts if you book online ahead of time!

  • Nickelodeon Universe: Great for toddlers and above.  The Paw Patrol playground is phenomenal, and they have thrill rides, too.

  • Dreamworks Water Park: Also great for toddlers and above; significant play areas and thrill water slides.

  • Big Snow: Yes, this is indoor skiing.  I think this is great for kids around five and above interested in skiing or snowboarding.  (I’d skip the sledding portion; it’s underwhelming.)

  • Legoland Discovery Center: This is great for ages three to five or Lego enthusiasts older than that. (It may not justify being the sole destination, but it is an excellent combination with something else. We went here with my three-year-old while the seven-year-old went skiing.)

Visit an indoor playground:

My current favorites:

Complete Playground (Financial District, Manhattan)

Space Club (Greenpoint, Fort Greene)

Hapik Climbing (Industry City/Sunset Park)
