July 4th Weekend 2024

I don’t think fireworks are worth the hype and effort; especially when the sun sets as late as it does right now. The NYC fireworks this year is on the East River and start at 9:25 pm- not a great combination. If you do want to watch, Gothamist had the best advice I’ve seen.

New York Historical Society Independence Day Celebration

Happy 4th of July! Celebrate Independence Day at the New-York Historical Society with humble street food and posh ice cream flavors that would have been familiar to New Yorkers of 1776! Meet historical interpreters to learn the fascinating stories of vendors who sold their wares in the streets and chef Hercules Posey, an enslaved cook of George Washington who self-emancipated in 1796. After sampling foods of the Revolutionary Era, continue making family memories with games, crafts, a dress-up photo booth, and more!

This is an inflatable pop-up packed with slides and like nothing my kids have ever experienced before. Note: no easy public transportation options and water shoes required.

The Prospect Park Alliance is hosting a celebration near the carousel with many activities (and carousel rides, obviously). The Zoo is also open for a full day of fun. If you’ve never taken the B41, I highly recommend using it for the zoo or carousel! It drops you off right in front of it.

Beat the heat and visit my favorite indoor playground. I checked their website and you can reserve for July 4th & July 5th right now. It’s the perfect time to take advantage of this 30% off special!

The Seaport is creating a beach fro this whole long weekend. On Saturday July 6th they’ve got a dedicated kids section. It's a great time to enjoy the views and play sand. Highly recommend a soft serve cone from Mister Dips while you’re there too!
